A perennial bushy clump of grass that grows in size each year. Native to India and Tropical Asia and very popular in Asian cooking.
Favourite Growing Conditions
Enjoys a sheltered poistion with morning sun. Does not like frosts. Soil should be rich and moist. Doesn’t like dry conditions.
Propagation is from root division preferably done in Spring. Before dividing the old leaves should be cut down to where the new shoots are appearing. Divide by digging well down into the ground with a spade, cutting clean thorugh the main bush. Place new shoots into the prepared ground and water well.
Water if too dry.
Leaves can be taken at any time.
Leaves can be used fresh or dried or frozen.
